Islandų menininkės Rúrí kūrybos paroda „Ateities kartografavimas“ Arkos galerijoje

Rugpjūčio 29 d., penktadienį, 17 val., galerija „Arka“ pirmą kartą Vilniaus auditorijai pristato vieną žymiausių konceptualių Islandijos menininkių Rúrí, kuri jau kelis dešimtmečius kūryboje nagrinėja dabarčiai aktualius globalius klausimus. „Arkoje“ pristatomi projektai tyrinėja žmonijos dabartį per kūrybinius, spekuliatyvius ir analitinius scenarijus.

Kūryboje Rúrí pabrėžia žmogaus veiklos poveikį gamtai ir klimato kaitai. Menininkei svarbu ne tik ekokritika, bet ir laiko, erdvės bei žmogaus santykio su pasauliu ir visata tyrinėjimai. Projektas „Future Cartography“ konstatuoja vizionieriškas vandenynų ir jūrų pakrančių linijų kaitos dėl tirpstančių ledynų pasekmes. Skirtingai nuo tradicinės kartografijos, „Ateities kartografavimas“ reflektuoja potencialias ar alternatyvias ateitis, užaštrinant besiformuojančias tendencijas, galimybes ir iššūkius technologinėje, socialinėje, aplinkosauginėje ar politinėje sferose.

Parodoje pristatomas platus Rúrí kūrybos spektras – tiek žymiausi jos darbai, tiek naujausios bei galerijos erdvėje įvietintos instaliacijos ir peformansas, kviečiantys žiūrovus permąstyti santykį su gamta ir žmogaus atsakomybę ateities kartoms.

Rúrí kūrybos jėga slypi jos gebėjime derinti meną su politiniais ir socialiniais iššūkiais, pasitelkiant platų skirtingų meno medijų spektrą. Jos darbai eksponuojami svarbiausiose šiuolaikinio meno galerijose ir muziejuose, o balsas nuolat girdimas diskusijose apie ekologiją ir meną, per meno aktyvizmą siekiant atkreipti dėmesį į globalias problemas. Vienas žymiausių menininkės darbų – instaliacija „Archive – Endangered Waters“ buvo pristatyta Venecijos šiuolaikinio meno bienalėje 2003 m. ir tapo Rúrí tarptautinio pripažinimo raktu. Instaliacijoje autorė nagrinėja, kaip bandymas dideliu mastu išnaudoti gamtą tam tikrų šalių finansinei naudai, gali turėti milžiniškų žalingų pasekmių visai ekosistemai. Rúrí siekia išryškinti, kad gamtos padėtis yra intensyvių globalių socialinių, politinių ir ekonominių procesų atspindys, o jos dabartinė būklė yra to rezultatas. Paroda „Ateities kartografavimas“ siekia skatinti diskusijas apie kūrybos, menininko atsakomybės ir socialinio aktyvizmo sąsajas šiuolaikiniame mene.

Exhibition by Icelandic artist Rúrí „Future Cartography“

For the first time, the Arka Gallery presents one of Iceland's most prominent conceptual artists, Rúrí, who has been exploring contemporary global issues in her work for several decades. The projects presented at Arka explore the present state of humanity through creative, speculative, and analytical scenarios.

Rúrí's works emphasize the impact of human activity on climate change and nature. The artist is interested not only in eco-criticism, but also in exploring time, space, and human existence in relation to the Earth and the Universe. The project „Future Cartography“ highlights the visionary consequences of melting glaciers on the changing coastlines of oceans and seas. Unlike traditional cartography, Future Cartography seeks to reflect potential or alternative futures, highlighting emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in the technological, social, environmental, and political spheres.

The exhibition presents a wide range of Rúrí's art, including some of her most notable works, as well as her latest installations and performance staged in the gallery space, inviting viewers to rethink their relationship with nature and human responsibility to future generations.

The power of Rúrí's work lies in her ability to combine art with political and social challenges, that are expressed through a wide range of different media. Her works are exhibited in major contemporary art galleries and museums, and her voice is constantly heard in discussions about ecology and art, seeking to provoke attention to global problems through art activism. One of the artist's most notable works, the installation Archive – Endangered Waters, was presented at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2003 and became the key to Rúrí's international recognition. In the installation, the author explores how the attempt to harness nature on a large scale to generate financial gain for certain parties may create enormously harmful consequences for the ecosystem.  Rúrí seeks to highlight that the state of nature is a reflection of intense social, political, and economic global processes, and that its current situation is the result of these processes. The exhibition "Future Cartography" aims to encourage discussion about the connections between creativity, artistic responsibility, and social activism in contemporary art.

The exhibition will run until September 28th.
