Introduction:
For most of her adult life, Laurie Sheridan worked primarily as a painter, with the white-walled gallery long serving as the ultimate destination for presenting her work. Over time, however, her practice gradually shifted toward public-facing art and toward a more egalitarian, less commercial way of sharing artistic experience.
For the past eleven years, she has worked exclusively in the field of sculpture. From beginning of this sculptural practice, Laurie has been interested in creating maquettes intended to be scaled up into outdoor objects. Her approach has also been ecologically oriented from the outset, reflecting a sustained interest in the relationship between artistic form, environment, and public space.
Given that her works are often presented in public parks and other outdoor settings, the desire to create a deeper connection between the artwork and its surroundings has become a natural progression in her practice. Usually, the time available to develop works in situ is limited. In this context, a two-month residency would offer an important opportunity and a significant step forward in Laurie Sheridan’s creative development.

During her residency in Palanga, Laurie adapted her sculptural installation Visitors to the local environment, seeking to create a symbolic connection between the artwork and nature. Through this work, Laurie invites viewers to feel themselves as part of a larger living organism and to understand the mutual interdependence between humans and the environment.
