Atnaujinta: 10-06

Introduction:

Mayali Geyling is a multidisciplinary artist based in Milton, Massachusetts, USA. Her practice is rooted in exploring the intersection of personal identity, global issues, and the natural world. She holds a BFA in Painting and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), reflecting her dedication to nurturing creativity and artistic development in others. A passionate advocate for sustainability and the arts, Mayali’s work fosters dialogue on issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, and ocean conservation. She believes that art has the power to bridge the personal and the global, creating meaningful connections that inspire action and awareness.

Alongside her studio practice, Mayali led art workshops that emphasized the power of making as a way of building connection: from guiding children in Palanga as they created promises to protect the sea and natural world, to working with elderly women in Vilnius through neurographic art practices that cultivated peace, meditation, and stress relief. At its core, her practice is a commitment to fostering dialogue and connection through art, inviting people of all ages and backgrounds into both personal and collective reflection.

In her recent series inspired by the coastal environment of Palanga, she weaves together watercolor, embroidery, drawing, and natural materials (pinecones, needles, reeds, and shells). Paper becomes a symbol of the sea’s fragility, while thread speaks to its vulnerability, repair, and the connective ties that bind us to one another and to the natural world. Stitches hold fragile surfaces in place even as they reveal their seams, echoing the care and attention required to sustain delicate ecosystems. Through layered images of humans and nature, her work embodies interconnection reminding us that while we depend on the sea for life and resources, our impact ripples outward across countless ecosystems. At its core, the series is both a meditation and a call to responsibility, urging us to nurture and protect the world we share.
