The founder and host of the residency is the Lithuanian Artists’ Association, a national organisation representing professional visual artists and actively promoting international cooperation and artistic mobility.
Palanga Art Residency is located just 500 meters from the Baltic Sea.
For artists, the Baltic Sea is both a shared natural heritage and a contested space, shaped by ecological pressures, economic interests, and cultural narratives. Residency encourages practices that engage with water as material, subject, and metaphor—exploring themes of sustainability, migration, temporality, and the ethics of resource use.
Moreover, residency is located besides Palanga Botanical Park, which history has started at the end of XIX century. Established in 1897 and designed by renowned French landscape architect Édouard André, the park forms part of the historic Tiškevičiai estate. At its centre stands the former palace, now housing the Palanga Amber Museum, making the park an important nexus of art, history, and cultural memory. The park’s layered landscape — coastal pine forest, dunes, ponds, and curated plant collections — offers strong conceptual potential for artistic exploration related to place, ecology, heritage, and time.
The residency programme focuses on site-responsive and research-driven artistic practices with particular attention to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the relationship between cultural heritage and ecological systems. The coastal landscape creates a context-rich environment for artistic inquiry.
Residency activities include artistic research and production, public presentations, open studios, artist talks, workshops, and professional exchange with local communities, cultural organisations, and national institutions.
